Beautiful Baby Furniture

Home No Comments »

Things have changed in the baby furniture offerings in the last 25 years, and it’s not just the look that has done a one hundred and eighty degree turn. Modern baby furniture is not only cool, but comfy as well, and a lot of the options can be created without breaking the bank.

Ahhh, babies. Those adorable little bundles of joy that we love to coo and cuddle with, and give the best of everything. Where they sleep and play is of utmost importance since that is primarily what they do for the first few years of their lives, and baby furniture has certainly changed to accommodate. The ornate options are still certainly available, but more practical baby furniture is the choice for most parents, especially if they are on a budget, and have limited space. Let’s take a look at how modern baby furniture has evolved, and where to go to get the best for less than you might have thought.

Traditionally, baby furniture was large, heavily decorated, and boasted intricate detailing with many swirls and carvings. This makes for a beautiful presentation, but leaves little in the way of practicality. First, the grooves and carvings found on this type of baby furniture collected dust, dirt, and all kinds of other baby “things”, making it hard to keep clean. It also tended to be ultra heavy, and hard to move when a spill happened, or needed to be moved around. And what about cost? The heavier and more ornately decorated, the pricier, and since babies’ needs change as they grow older, it just isn’t very practical to have this type of baby furniture. Well, unless you are a millionaire.

Modern baby furniture has given us clean lines, simple designs, and lighter weight options to fit every budget. Layers of paint have been replaced by a “wash” or stain, and there are few, if any, grooves or carvings that can collect that dust and dirt that drives most parents crazy. Cleaning can be done with a swipe of a cloth, and if you need to move the entire piece, then you can now most likely do it alone. This is also great because as the baby grows, the baby furniture can be adjusted to fit their needs with minimal adjustments. Not only does this save you money, but makes for much easier decorating when you already know the sizes of the baby furniture. Many of the baby furniture items today can be easily transitioned into furniture for toddlers, and some even transform to accommodate older children as well. For example, a crib purchased for an infant has the instructions on how to remove the railings and use the included side rails making for a safe toddler bed. That same bed can be adjusted by removing those rails, and creating a traditional bed for older children, and you can get much more use out of it than design specific baby furniture.

Modern baby furniture can be purchased in a variety of ways. Consignment stores offer great prices on gently used pieces, and most furniture stores offer transitional items like those mentioned above. Of course, if money and space are no object, then the most elaborate of baby furniture can still be purchased at furniture and outlet stores, and then passed on to someone else who is also a traditionalist.

Clothes To Buy For Your Infant

Home No Comments »

Your due date to give birth to your baby is near and now you need to decide what clothes to buy for your infant. Of course, everything has to be perfect! Nine months has been a long time. You couldn’t wait until you set aside space in your home to prepare for your infant. Did you want to know whether it was a boy or girl? Not really. You just knew you were pregnant and a healthy baby was all that mattered.

Your cravings for certain foods have now entered into cravings for the perfect clothes for your infant. This is one area where the entire family can have a part. It is a bit more difficult not knowing whether it is a boy or a girl, but the fun part is still there. As the due date comes closer, the need to “nest build” becomes evident. Trips to the shopping mall for that perfect “take home” outfit, thumbing through catalogs especially geared to sell clothes for your infant and listening to helpful, though unwanted, advise from other women who have been there can take an emotional toll on the mother-to-be. Doctor’s visits and last minute preparations all weigh on you as you finalize plans for the new addition to the family.

Given the climate where you live and the time of year your baby will be born will determine to an extent what kind of infant clothes to buy. The fabrics are generally soft, either made from cotton in warmer climates or wool in climates that are cooler. Synthetics should be avoided since the tendency to suffocate an infant is greater as the baby’s pores are unable to “breathe”. Newborn infants are very delicate and their clothes should be gentle to the skin. Color of the clothes hinges on whether the baby is a boy or girl and usually come in pastel shades. Nowadays, unisex clothes are easier to find and your family and friends will not have a problem in helping you dress your infant.

Of course, when purchasing infant clothes, it would be helpful to consider easy washing and comfort. The clothes should be roomy but not bulky and easy to put on and take off. Neck openings that have snaps on them and zippers will allow for easier on and off when dressing your infant. Because babies grow fast, only a few items will be needed in each size. Basic clothing includes diapers (as well as disposable ones), undershirts and sleepers. Cloth diapers are usually made from gauze, flannelettes or terry cloth and can be stored in a small container until time to wash the family laundry. For trips or emergencies, disposable diapers have been a life saver but are rather expensive and can be environmentally unfriendly.

Buying infant clothes is a fun time for the parents, family and friends. About the only thing that can dampen this happy occasion is deciding who’s clothing gift your infant will be wearing when announcing the birth. Rest assured. The excitement of the new arrival will win out in the end.

Increase Your Comfort With a Bamboo Shade

Home No Comments »

People that live in hot climates are always looking for ways to keep their homes cool and comfortable. One way that many of these people do this is by using window treatments that are well suited for hot climates. There are several types of window treatments that work well in hot climates, including bamboo shades.

Outdoor window treatments are popular in hot climates. They are much more popular in warmer climates than in cooler climates where sheer fabric panel drapes allow sunlight in to warm a cold room during the day, while heavy drapes are closed during the evening to prevent heat loss through the windows. Window drapery is used in all types of climates, but it comes in forms that are more varied than heavy fabric and lightweight panels. Many window treatments use natural materials to increase comfort and provide protection from the elements.

Bamboo window shades offer protection and privacy in hot climates, but they are more than just window treatments. Bamboo shades are also very versatile. Bamboo shades can offer shade from the sun as well as shelter from rain and wind during inclement weather by being supported by bamboo rods. They can offer not only protection from the weather, it can also offer a reduction of mildew and mold on the protected area. A bamboo shade is one of the most popular types of all outdoor window treatments because of its easy care, natural good looks and extreme versatility.

There are several types of bamboo shades available. Bamboo roll up shades are one of the most popular types of window treatments for garden windows. Bamboo roll up shades are easier to use than Venetian-Style bamboo window blinds. They use a rope that can sometimes become tangled. Venetian-Style blinds must be raised and lowered with great care, but bamboo roll up shades simply roll up before being secured with a strap. Such ease of use makes the roll up shade design very popular.

One of the many benefits of bamboo window blinds is their durability. Bamboo blinds are very strong and extremely durable, even during weather that could damage other blinds. They do not require yearly weatherproofing treatment, which greatly reduces the need for annual maintenance. They only need to be turned periodically to that the color and texture of them remains even on each side of the blinds. Another benefit is the ease of installation and removal of the bamboo shade. Bamboo window blinds can easily be removed using common household tools. This makes turning the bamboo window blinds easy.

Bamboo window blinds are not always easy to find, but they can be ordered through the Internet or through a specialty window treatment shop. For unusual bamboo shade sizes, it may be necessary to place a special order for bamboo window shades. It may take several weeks after ordering before the shades arrive, but the wait is worth it for the beauty and durability of bamboo window shades.
